Why should you build links to your website?
As most web-site owners today know, having links to your web-site from other sites is an important part of the process of creating a web-site. It doesn't matter whether you are creating a simple personal site, or a huge e-commerce site for your corporation, building inbound links to your website is probably one of the most important things you can do. Search engines such as Google and Yahoo count and track the number of links pointing to your website, and use this information to calculate your site's importance on the internet. The more links you have pointing to your site, the better chances you have of obtaining high placement in search engine results. While some links are better then others, every link count, and the more you have the better. So if you don't have a lot of inbound links for your website, get started today and prepare your site for tomorrow. The best place to start any linking strategy is with web directories. The two biggest by far are Yahoo! and the Open Directory (used by Google). Being listed in these is an absolute must as they generate huge amounts of traffic. There are plenty of other directories you should get listed in too. Global, local and industry-specific directories abound on the Internet. To find them run a search for ‘web directory’ on your favourite search engine. The directories that come up highest in the search rankings will probably generate the most traffic. |
